|
|
When I created this board I realized that perhaps some would find it offensive--and frankly I don't care.
I want the open and honest discussion of religion, and spiritual belief; not some watered down version of what makes every faith (including my own) warm and fuzzy. If you doubt that about me, read the exchanges between me and Banko sometime.
I also realize, that one's experience with a faith, is not necessary anothers nor does it rubber stamp the entire faith for all eternity.
Now, I will say this:
I expect everyone here to abide by very basic values. If someone refers to another poster as a 'dumb phuqing bitch or bastard' they are done...along with more obvious remarks that would fall upon the same lines.
If someone challeges one's belief...well golly folks, as before stated, check out my or Snowy's exchanges with Banko....he has the right to an opinion as much as anyone, and that includes Sly or anyone else that disagrees; as Always knows, though Sly is my friend, I have often played moderator on CTV...as I honestly respect both sides of the issue; and in my heart I truly do not think Sly is a liar anymore than I think Always is...I believe that they are from different generations and had different experiences; and to respect both of them is not a weakness but as I see it decentcy.
Freedom of Religion is just that..strictly a debate and informational forum.
I don't want to judge by banning another persons opinion or expression of opinion even if I don't agree with it...that as I see it infringes on freedom of speech.
I have offered sites, to the best of my ablity that offers the positive--it is up to those that agree to disagree to offer their experiences or links to the contrary.
That does work for everyone...as most of you have seen, I do jump in on exchanges; I have not warned or banned anyone for refering to others as a liar, or foolish, etc...
I guess in short this is a pro freedom board; sometimes when you offer freedom you hear things you don't want to, or you don't agree with..and that is the risk of having free speech.
I am not out to offend anyone; as my CTV posting record will prove.
I find anyone that has a belief worth fighting for is a strong person...even if that belief is the right to have 'no belief'
I enjoy the exercise of the mind, and I hope others will understand....I am not a pro-religion board...I am a pro-discussion board, even I have been annoyed at times, but that which does not kill us makes us stronger....
I will not hold a grudge if some choose to leave, though I hope that you will have as much faith in yourself as you do in your beliefs and exercise your freedom of speech on a board that will not only respect it, but embrace it...even when we disagree. _________________ Merry Meet, Merry Part, Merry Meet Again

Tracian, Thanks for a great board and all the time and energy you put into it.
I know how hard it is to walk a fine line it questioning beleifs without people taking it personally. Its damn near impossible.
I lived in NYC for over 20 years and now I'm not too far - Long Island. This is a VERY Jewish area. Personally I have big issue with the actions of the Israeli gov't. Yet, it's really hard to get into a conversation because the ensuing words become "anti-semite" and all the ilk that follows. It's really awful that its impossible to have a two-sided debate in that area without the emotions flying. I have to sit quietly and listen to one-sided conversation lest I have to leave the situation and most of the time its amongst other parents when our kids are playing. Such is life when one is a critical thinker and has a decent background in history (a hobby).
What a fine line we walk in order to converse with our fellow humans.
Thanks for giving space here to one aspect of that fine line.
ps: miss you at HBO boards! |

Tracian,
Thank you for your invitation for LDS members to participate on this thread. I have made an attempt to participate, but it seems that most folks posting here are more interested in bashing than discussing.
I have "fought these same battles" for over forty years. I have seen and answered all this stuff some of the posters are collecting from the anti-mormon sites over and over again. One eventially gets tired of it.
I have found that it does no one any good to participate in an atmosphere like the one that exists here. I leave two links to web sites for anyone who is serious about knowing more about the "Mormons".

Robot.
If you set the board to read the fuzzy letters when signing up it will prevent robots from signing up and spamming the board. |
