"A man and a woman have been charged by police in Italy after they were found having sex in a confession box, it was reported Wednesday.

The Italian ANSA news agency said the young man and woman were taken into custody by police in the northern city of Cesena following a telephone complaint from a man attending morning Mass in the city's cathedral.

Authorities were alerted after a parishoner heard "rustling and groaning" coming from inside the confession box and pulled back the curtains to reveal a goth-rock couple engaged in oral sex, ANSA said.

The agency said the pair -- a 31-year-old laborer and a 32-year-old teacher -- defended their conduct saying: "We are atheists and for us, having sex in church is like doing it any other place."

However, Bishop Antonio Lanfranchi of Cesena-Sarsina took said the couple's behavior was "an outrage of notable proportions which bespeaks unutterable squalor."

He added that a special ceremony would be held to purify the confession box."

Hope that ceremony involves full-strength Clorox and boiling water....

LOL, sorry DDawg...I've been slammed with invoicing and PO requests.  I haven't had a chance to get in here until now.

As for them being Atheist...I feel that they were just using that excuse.  They may be Atheist, and that's fine, however, I think they were most likely doing it in a Church for more of a Shock Factor than anything else.

It wouldn't be any different, as far as I'm concerned, if someone was doing it on a bus, a plane, in a park...etc.  When people do this sort of thing, it's got to be for the shock factor.

Either way, I agree...I do hope the clorox and heavy disinfectants have been put to use!!!

I don't know why they were doing it there, but it's funny.

I'll bet the look on the face of the person who caught them was something to behold.

Course I was the one howling with laughter once upon a time when a certain Episcopal priest who shall remain nameless was observed having sex in the fountain in front of the Art Museum in Philadelphia with 3 (three) nurses from Hanheman (sic) hospital.

I think the appeal is the whole "forbidden fruit" thing.... if it's off limits, ya gotta do it.... or some people do, anyway. Not me, of course... hard to get me into a church under any conditions.

What I found really funny about this story was the Bishop's characterization of it. Wonder how long it took him to come up with that phrasing....

Good to see you here, Llinn!!!

LOL.  Let's not forget about molestation that's gone on in the Church for years and years.  Talk about an outrage of notable proportions.  Talk about unutterable squalor!

Yes, the Bishop was outraged because no priest was involved in the sexcapades in question.....
