I've got to check THAT out!
DD, I know you won't be back until tomorrow, but I just wanted you to know that I pm'd jessie50, smokey stover, sumanadevii, minou and Tracian (I tried Lyvia and LisaM22 but their mailboxes are full) and told them that you need company over here during the day. I'll try Lyvia and LisaM again tomorrow.
I also told THEM to pass the message on to anyone else they can think of.
I hope there'll be some company here soon! _________________ "I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing." -- Melville |

[quote="Qubilai"]Ah, that's "Qubilai", as in the feared Mongol leader.
I'm a newbie, although I'm as old as the hills. I knew your grandfather. In fact I named my cat after him. I acquired him thus: my wife and I had a black cat that we loved, named Boston Blackie. He disappeared, and our searches proved fruitless. So I posted a message about losing him on trees and poles around our block. They were up only about a half-day before the police politely informed us that they had to be removed pronto, that is, before 5 p.m. Even though the posts were up just a few hours, we received numerous phone calls. Many of them all pointed at the same cat, who bothered people by walking home with them and wanting to come in. One lady said that she new this cat wasn't ours, but would we please come and look at him. Turns out she wanted to get rid of him because he was bullying her little female cat. We drove to her house, saw that it was true, and when she said, "Please take him," we looked at each other five seconds, and I picked him up. We named him Genghiz Khan because of his leadership qualities and fearful demeanor. (I know I spelled it wrong--on purpose.)

| DurhamDawg wrote: | | Hi, Q! Good to see you here. As you probably have heard, I got banned from CTV again. CW won't tell me why, but I think it is because I posted a thread asking "What is a bannable offense?" because I'd previously been banned from the politics board for "sarcasm," which CW has apparently decided is a bannable offense, although it's not in the TOS. Apparently, just having the temerity to ask the question is itself a bannable offense! Who knew? <skip> |
Obviously I'm not Quiscalus. I tried to find this site earlier, but too clumsily to be effective. You were kind enough to mention my name. Well, my username.
About sarcasm. There's a ton of it on the CTV board, so I think probably she read your question "What's bannable?" as a challenge. I've had a lot of posts erased, and I think I can guess why, although I believe her perception of the intention or effect is in error.
As I said to Quiscalus, I think the owners of the site and all like them are content to have an over-active censor like Coldwater. I think it likely that active Political Correctness is considered a desirable attribute in a moderator. (I'll probably drone on about that later.)
I'm sorry not to have you on the CTV board. But I have to confess that my interest in religion is not so much a religious interest as it is a general interest in social themes, of which religion happens to be a conspicuous one.
Why DurhamDawg? I know two places named Durham. Are you from one of them? It's also the name of a variety of hog. Just had to mention that! Anyway, as you see, here I am. Also, if you are a female Dawg, you are a bitch. Did you wish to be known thus? _________________ According to Smokey,

How about that Japanese fella? He seems a nice enough sort of chap.
He's a little hard to understand is all. His english isn't all that great, but I can see that he is trying hard to improve it. :smt001 |
Do you mean Seijin? I'm sorry, but I disagree there. I presume that he is young and well-educated in science. However, he's rather arrogant and is often sarcastic. Sarcasm is sarcasm, in English orJapanese. From what I've seen of his posts, they are more reative than original. That is, he doesn't open up new ideas, but just comments on others' posts. On the other hand, I would be as nice to him as I could if he showed up. Actually, I would probably start talking to him as a Dutch uncle. Which he needs, but might not accept. _________________ According to Smokey,

HI smokey!
So I got you over here...and where is DDawg?
This is why people who know me never leave anything up to me!
I hope she'll show.
By the way, Qubilai (whom you know better on the CTV Boards as "Uriel," now "Doc Holliday") was being facetious about "the Japanese fella." HE's someone you already knew, also in a previous incarnation, as sansecular.
Oh, crap, my computer is screwing up again. Maybe it IS the machine and not the ISP. Damn. _________________ "I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing." -- Melville |

quiscalus, thank you for inviting those folks! FYI, this is Tracian's board (not sure if you knew that). She doesn't seem to be here a lot lately, though.
Smokey Stover, welcome! Good to see you here! I hope you'll stop by regularly. I've enjoyed your posts on CTV. Yes, I'm a Durhamite (Durham, NC). And although I'm female, I prefer "dawg" to "bitch." I was DurhamDawg and then DDawgGone on CTV. I joined the CTV boards to follow the Mike Peterson murder case a few years back. I spent 4 years on CTV under the two nics before finally getting my fill of CW's overzealous and capricious moderating. I saw a lot of good, intelligent, funny, decent people run off those boards by CW.
I hope we can step up the level of traffic on this board to something approaching what CTV gets on its religion boards. The moderating here is reasonable and even-handed, which is a nice change of pace from CTV.
Isn't bangoskank sansecular's nic here? Anybody know for sure? |

DD, I know you won't read this until tomorrow. I knew it was Tracian's board, but since she didn't seem to be visiting much herself lately, I thought it would be good to let her know you are here as well.
I'm going to go try Lyvia and LisaM again (and I'll ask them to clean out their pm's if I still can't get through), and I'll also ask Beach of Dreams and Details. _________________ "I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing." -- Melville |

It phuqing pisses me off that she banned me the last time, especially since there were no real heated debates or discussions going on. _________________ "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities." – Voltaire. |

You were kind enough not to remind me that I associated Durham with a variety of hog. Actually I was totally wrong. The hog is named Duroc. You still see a lot of them, along with Poland-China hogs and a few others. But I can't seem to remember all those names of varieties of hog, sheep, horses, cherries and so on that I knew so well in my agricultural youth.
It's unimportant, but I was once a visitor to Durham. Spent a day on the Duke campus, drove around town just a bit. Saw some other N.C. sights, but I tend to get them mixed up with other states. I'm not sure, but I think the Great Swamp is in N.C. Nice state for a tourist.
