Well, misleading title much?
I feel I have to respond, this time, in a somewhat helter-skelter fashion. First, in my previous life I WAS a dishwasher, minus the eczema and valium. Never had either one. As it happens, I'm still a dishwasher. Ya wanna make somethin' of it?
Snowy, JustSnowy, Snowmagick, thank you for the clarification. And I'm glad to know about the transmogrification of BootedFilly as well.
I never expected to see pictures of Quiscalus, but for the same reason that Angel, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, doesn't photograph well. And in case anyone wants to know where MY picture is, I have the same excuse as Quiscalus, but a little more so. I haven't the slightest idea how to send a picture; and the most recent picture I have of myself is when I got married. It's not digital, of course, so there. But it's an interesting picture, for me, since it's the only one ever taken of me where I'm wearing a beard. (Thereafter someone knocked some sense into me.)
I haven't heard the name, Giulietta Masina, in ever so many years. I have a fairly vivid memory of a scene or two from La Strada, and certainly of La Masina herself. I saw her again in Nights of Cabiria (Notte di Cabiria), and I think, but I can't be certain, that I saw Juliet of the Spirits (Giulietta degli Spiriti). Alas, she died in 1994 at the age of 73, not long after her husband's death.
Does the resemblance you mentioned mean, Quiscalus, that you're short?
Carry on. I'm sure something intelligent to say will come to me after I've had some sleep. _________________ According to Smokey,

I don't know what time zone you are in, Snowy, but your last message seems to have been scripted in the wee hours of the night. I have two comments: one is a very grateful "Thank you" for your kindness. I'm thinking this is probably a central attribute of yours. I'm thinking, also, that your avatar represents how you see yourself, or would like to be seen--cute, cheerful, friendly and warm. Well, so far so good. I'm already inclined to see you that way.
The other comment is about something you said earlier. "Anyway, I am Wiccan. (and yes I believe in things that go woo-woo. . .)" Well, Snowy, I and many of my male peers are also among the things that go "woo-woo." Have you never had boys getting a good look at you as you passed and saying, just loud enough to be plainly heard, "Woo-woo"? No? Well, if not, you were just born too late.
Is there a topic which I have gone off of? Well, as they say, tant pis! _________________ According to Smokey,

At my age, if any guys go woo-woo at me, I will DEFINITELY be going 'BUMP IN THE NIGHT'.
ps: I'm on east coast time. Yeah... I get up early.
pps: I changed the name of the thread so you won't have to worry about going off topic Smoky _________________ Where there's a witch, there's a way.

LMAO, snowy! And I can relate!
Smokey: Yeah, I'm short (5'3"), but I'm tough. Wanna make something of it?
Glad you bagged the beard, smokey. Just personal taste: clean-shaven men are much more attractive to me. (My brother, whose face has not been seen since 1975, would have something snarky to say about that, I'm sure. Oh, well, at least we got him to dump the pipe, which was just TOO stereotypical for a professor.) _________________ "I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing." -- Melville |

Since JustSnowy has allowed me to go off-topic, I must announce that my Norton Security software discovered a virus for (I believe) the first time since getting the program. Apparently it's a nasty one, but I think the Norton program must have saved me, since my computer seems intact. I should add that this program inspects my outgoing e-mails and Internet messages as well as incoming messages, so I'm reasonably sure I'm not simply spreading the virus.
If you're not a member of either the HFTM board or the InSession board you probably have nothing to fear. But it's a good rule anyway never to open an e-mail from someone you don't know. If someone has e-mailed you a virus, it won't affect your computer unless you open it. Opening unwanted mail can give you a virus which destroys yor data, or which can use your computer for mailing itself to everyone on your list. Or it could just be spam, trying to get you to buy, say, Viagra. Or it could be phishing. I trust you all know about that and how to avoid it. I imagine you al lknow, as well, that innocent-looking e-mails can contain poisonous attachments.
I know I'm not dealing with innocent children here, but forgive me for reminding you of the need for good security software. ANY such software is better than none.
May I just add my wish that if the death penalty remains in effect, it should be broadened to include people who send computer viruses, in which I include worms and Trojan horses and anything of the like. Any person doing this, even if they are only a teenager, is committing a terroristic act.
I know that this includes the brother of a girl I was once closely attached to. He was very bright, a student at MIT, and bragged about the ability he and his pals had to hack into anything, including the grade records at MIT. His family was very rich, and it was a great surprise for them (the family) when one day at supper time (I was there, as it happens), the police came to arrest Junior, who was then still in high school, and had been stealing school equipment. Nobody's perfect, but I wouldn't mind seeing Junior in jail. But no, worse luck, he's free and gainfully employed. _________________ According to Smokey,

What was the virus, do you know, Smokey?
Did you open up an email from HFTM? |

I don't know what name the virus may have, nor the type. My Norton program announced tersely that I had a virus, didn't give it a name, and said it couldn't handle it. However, a few minutes later its automatic program for scanning files found no viruses. I have no idea what e-mail I may have opened. I usually just delete e-mails of unknown origin, but the spammers are really working overtime to figure out ways to sound innocuous. I didn't actually READ any e-mail that looked suspicious. As for attachments, I have friends who send me attachments all the time, and ask me how I liked them. The last one was an underwater picture of two scuba divers who had a really huge shark right behind them, of which they were totally unaware. The photographer signaled to them to come back immediately to the ship, but wisely didn't tell them what was behind them. (Probably couldn't.) Fortunately, the shark appears not to have been hungry. The most menacing looking photograph I've ever seen.
If you attempt to open HelpFindTheMissing, you will find yourself in a strange and suspicious looking program, in which most of the text is in Arabic. I got the hell out of there before going further into it. _________________ According to Smokey,

Norton said it couldn't handle it? Sounds rather grim.
BTW, Smokey, remember that thread over there about global warming and posts got deleted? That was sort of my fault since I answered your last set of questions and then posted "I hope we don't get in trouble for hijacking the thread".
And then.....POOF...... they went bye bye... I shouldn't have said anything about hijacking the thread... |

Always a good thing to remind even us techno-savvy folks how easily a computer can be compromised.
Smoky - I would still suggest going to the Symantec website and allowing them to do a deep(er) scan of your comptuer. I have had, in the past, viruses that Norton knew were in the 'puter, but did not show up on a scan.
Another thing to do is to go into your Task Manager (ctrl/alt/del - choose it from there) and see if there are any suspicious processes running. Not programs - processes. Although, if you're not super familiar with what normally runs on your computer (in the background) - you might not know...
gotta run kids - i have a 4 AM shift and I have an hour and a half drive to get to work.
