Nah...they'd have to know how to cook.

Typical story of the block:  Ambulance comes and takes away a guy who'd been shot in the knee.  Despite its being obvious to police at the scene that the shooting went down in the apartment and the culprit was the crazy girlfriend, the guy claims that he was the victim of a drive-by while  innocently sitting on his stoop.

The fact that it was a sunny Saturday morning and the street was filled with people sitting on THEIR stoops at the time this supposed drive-by went down didn't seem to occur to this mope.  I don't know whether he was trying to protect crazy girlfriend, or he was embarrassed because she shot him with his own gun.

Now, had he told the police that he was shot by a JW who wouldn't take no for an answer, they probably would have bought it.

The neighborhood is actually quite safe and sedate and middle class.  I'm waiting for the "sedate" part to become a thing of the past, though, as the neighborhood Republicans realize they have to deal with an increasing influx of Muslims.

It's just my particular street.  It's an odd little street made up entirely of 6-family apartment buildings, whereas the rest of the neighborhood consists of one and two family homes, some quite posh, or large new (i.e., ugly) condominium complexes.

My block is the only fun one in the entire neighborhood.  I loves it, I does!  It's the country in a microcosm:  black, white, Latino, Middle Eastern, Jewish, gay, right-wing, left-wing.  Get someone to come park a trailer on the street and my life on the block will be complete (although my spouse and I have designated ourselves the "official white trash family" just to add that demographic). You wouldn't believe the insults that get screamed from windows in the middle of the night.  My spouse gets pissed and calls the cops, but I prefer to join the fun and shout insults out the window too.

I guarantee you that once the presidential race goes into overdrive, we're gonna have fist-fights in the street.  My "Obama" sign is already in my window, but since we live on the top floor I don't think we'll get egged (unless some McCain supporter who throws like Nolan Ryan lives on the block, which is always a possibility).

Cool.  And you don't even have to bring a bullet-proof vest, because that crazy bitch who kneecapped her mope boyfriend is long gone...along with the mope, I'm happy to report, although I don't know if they left together.  I'm hoping she's in jail where she belongs, but who knows?  Maybe she was related to a Congressperson.

Oh yeah, speaking of Congresspeople, the CD dividing line is right down my block.  So the lucky folk across the street have as their Congressman Jerald Nadler, one of the best.  WE ended up with Vito Fossella, conservative Republican creep.

Fortunately, ol' Vito's got his comeuppance.  For those of you not familiar with the story, "Family Values Vito," proud hubby and dad, got pulled over in Virginia driving drunk...and it turns out he was in Virginia visiting his "other" family -- his mistress and her daughter by him.

I laughed until I cried.  Nothing makes a better bedtime story than the outing of a hypocrite.  I feel sorry for his kids, though...ALL his kids.

None of this, of course, has anything to do with JWs.
