When the RCC makes a big deal about stuff like this, they cause more trouble for themselves than if they just left it alone. "The DaVinci Code" was not only historically inaccurate (and it amazes me how many people forgot, while reading it, that it was fiction), but I found it incredibly difficult to get through because it was so poorly written. Dan Brown is no Richard Price, that's for sure. (I just had to add that little plug for one of my favorite contemporary novelists, along with Michael Chabon and Jonathan Lethem. If you haven't read them, and you like fiction, check them out!)
I didn't even bother to see the movie.
But...if you're the RCC and you condemn it, they will read. Not smart.
I guess, though, in this case, if you're the Curia and you believe something is blasphemous, you have the right to refuse to allow filming on your property.
I mean, I wouldn't let a homophobe use my apartment to make a film bashing gay people. I believe in freedom of expression...but if it goes against my principles, I don't have to be party to it.
